Can I make revenue payment using the Internet?

 · You can make revenue payment through the Internet. 
 · This facility is called GRAS (Government Receipt Accounting System)/ eChallan payment.
 · Details of the same are available at https://gras.mahakosh.gov.in/  website 



What is e-payment of Revenue?

 . This is a facility provided to the revenue payers to make payments using net-banking facility. 
 . It is making payments online.  
 . All types of revenue due to the Government, e.g., Sales Tax, Road Tax, taxes and duties including 
   penalties  etc. under any law of the Government of Maharashtra can be paid through internet, using 
   net banking facility. 



What is the procedure for using this facility?

Step 1
     a)		Log on to Maharashtra Government website (https://gras.mahakosh.gov.in/echallan/) 
     b)	Those who have already registered themselves on the system should use their User Id and Password to log in. 
     c)	Those who want to make payment occasionally but do not want to register should click on the icon “Payment without 
	Registration”. 
     d)	Those who want only the format of the challan can click on “Download Blank Challan”. 
Step 2 
     After clicking the “Payment without Registration” button, you will be directed to the screen for entering the data: 
     a)		Select the required challan Form ID.
     b)	Enter PAN/ TAN/ any relevant Tax ID for payments 
     c)	Enter Name and address 
     d)	Select Office Location and Office Name 
     e)		Select Assessment Year 
     f)		Select Period of the relevant Tax 
     g)	Enter the Amount of the Tax 
     h)	Select the e-payment mode of payment 
     i)		Select the bank Logo from the menu provided, if you want to make on-line payment

Please ensure that you enter PAN/TAN/ Tax ID correctly, as this is extremely important for further processing

Step 3 
 Choose the “Mode of Payment”. Two modes are available-1) e-Payment and 2) Manual Payment 
Step 4 
If you choose e-Payment Mode, you get bank’s logos to select from. Select the bank where you have your bank account. 
Step 5 
If you choose Manual Mode of Payment, you get choice to either pay through Cheque / Demand Draft or Cash. (Payment Type)
Step 6
If Payment Type Cheque/Demand Draft is chosen, fields to enter Payee Bank details, Cheque/D.D. Number and Place of Payment
   have to be filled in.
Step 7
After selection as in Step 4 OR Step 5 and then entering all the above details shown in Step 6; 
lick on the “SUBMIT” button. Submitting will prompt you to ‘PLEASE VERIFY YOUR DETAILS’ message. Please 
verify the details entered by you once again and click O. K.  You will get a message showing G. R. N. 
(Government Reference Number). Press “O. K.” button. 
Step 8
This will generate an e-Challan with the Government Reference Number (GRN). You can use the GRN for all your 
correspondence regarding the payment in future. 
Step 9

Download or Print the challan as per your requirement.

Step 10    
 In case of e-Payment Mode after you have selected the net-banking site, you   will be taken to the Bank’s site. 
 Then proceed to make payment. 
Step 11
Make payment from your bank account using User Id and Password given by the bank.
Step 12
The same challan with G. R. N. will be displayed. It will now show the Bank/ Branch name, CIN given by the Bank and 
the Date of Payment. This is enough proof of having made the payment.
Step 13
Download or Print the challan as per your requirement.



Where can one obtain the Challans?

 . After making payment using net banking facility provided by the System, soft copies of Challans 
   are available  at https://gras.mahakosh.gov.in if you are a registered user. 
 . You can download the same on your computer and take print out whenever necessary. 
 . You can also get a filled in three part challan with GRN given by the System after you enter minimum data, 
   without getting registered. You have to click on the “Payment without Registration” button on the Home Page. 
   A data entry sheet appears. Fill in the details and follow instructions. 
 . Challan formats can also be downloaded/ printed through this System. 




How does the new system benefit me?

 . The new system is of great benefit to any revenue payer, as you are not required to personally visit the bank 
   to make the payments. 
 . Payment can be made electronically at your convenience from any place where an Internet facility is available 
   e.g. your office, residence, etc. 
 . A single simplified challan has to be filled up replacing the complicated three-copy challan. 
 . This challan can be filled up much faster. 
 . Immediate availability of an acknowledgement for revenue paid at the Government site is ensured. 
 . Once you have the Challan copy with the Government Reference Number (GRN) and you have filled in your 
   Tax ID/ TAN correctly, you are assured that the payment will be properly accounted for in your name. 
 . You get the Government Reference Number (GRN) and Bank CIN (Challan Identification Number) online, which 
   is required by you when you file your return or have to show acknowledgement for payment of revenue.




What is Goverment Reference Number (GRN) and what is its relevance?

 Government Reference Number (GRN) is generated on the Challan to uniquely identify the payment to be made by the user. 
GRN should be quoted for any further enquiry.
Therefore, you must ensure that 18 digit GRN generated is properly noted and saved.  
A separate Bank CIN (Challan Identification Number) is generated as an acknowledgement for payment made online



What are the conditions to make payment on-line?

 You can use the facility if you have a bank account with net-banking facility with any of the banks 
registered on the site, and have obtained User Id for  on-line money transactions from the bank.



Is it mandatory to pay revenue online?

 . No, it is not mandatory. 
 . However, use of the site facilitates revenue payments without hassle, the details of payment 
   are retained on the system for any future use and getting registered on the system further facilitates
   the user with a history of payments made by him as well as obtaining a copy of the challan at any point  
   of time is possible thereby avoiding the necessity to retain a physical copy of the paid challan.




How do I know whether my bank is registered for this facility?

 The list of banks presently providing this facility is available on GRAS 
 (Government Receipt Accounting System)https://gras.mahakosh.gov.in  website.

What is an Unregistered User?

An unregistered user is the revenue payer who wants to use the facility occasionally and does not want 
to get registered permanently on the site.



What is the procedure to be followed when I am on the Bank’s Site?

 . Bank Screen will appear with the ‘pay to: Virtual Treasury, Government of Maharashtra Account’.
 . You will now be required to enter the amount of tax you intend to pay and also select your bank 
   account number from where you intend to pay the tax. After verifying the correctness, you can
   proceed with confirming the payment. 
 . Further, you get the Government Reference Number (GRN) and Bank CIN (Challan Identification Number)
   online, which is required by you when you file your return or have to show acknowledgement for
   payment of revenue.




What will happen after I confirm the payment of tax at my bank’s site?

 Your bank will process the transaction online by debiting the bank account indicated by you and generate
 a printable eChallan with the Bank “Challan Identification Number.” (CIN). The Bank/ Branch name and the
 Date of payment will also appear on the right hand corner of the challan.  



What happens after I have paid the amount electronically at the Bank website?

After the transaction is authorised by the Bank, the copy of the challan will appear with a 
“Challan Identification Number” (CIN), name of the Bank/ branch and the date of payment. 
This Challan can be downloaded, saved and printed. Thus the payer receives an immediate payment receipt




How can I know that I have completed tax payment using this facility?

Apart from Bank CIN given to you, you can check your online bank statement at the Bank site 
to verify the tax payment.




What is the timing for making payment through Internet?

 You will have to check the net-banking web page of your bank’s website for this information.




If I encounter any problem while making payment through Internet whom should I contact?

 . In case of any problem encountered at your bank site, you should contact your bank  for assistance 




Whom should I contact if the Challan containing the GRN is not displayed on completion of the transaction and if I want duplicate Challan?

 Your Bank may provide facility for re-generation of electronic Challan. Kindly check the Bank website.
 If not, then you should contact your bank to request them for duplicate eChallan. You can get the 
 same Challan copy on government website in your profile history, if you are a registered user.




If I misplace my Challan whom do I contact?

GRAS (Government Receipt Accounting System) provides facility for re-generation of electronic challan 
only to ‘Registered Users’ of the site. Check the 
http://echallan.maharshtra.gov.in/log-in/Challan History. You may also contact the Virtual Treasury
Officer, at 022-22040564 or 022-22040570 during Office hours or write to us at 




After making e-payment of tax if status of challan is not available on Bank, what should I do?

You can verify the status of the challan in the “Challan History” at the 
http:/eChallan.maharshtra.gov.in/log-in/Challan History website after 5 to 7 days of making e-payment,
if you have already registered on the site. In case of non-availability of the challan status kindly
contact the Virtual Treasury Officer at 022-22040564 or 022-22040570 during Office hours or write to us

If after entering challan details on the Maharashtra Government site, Bank Name is not being displayed what should I do?

 . If the User is using Internet Explorer browser, then temporary Internet files should be deleted by 
   following the below mentioned steps:
		A. Open Internet Explorer window 
		B. Go to “Tools” Menu
		C. Select “Internet Options”
		D. Delete cookies and Delete temporary Internet files on your machine
		E. Close the current Internet Explorer windows
		F. Again go to https://gras.mahakosh.gov.in/echallan/ site & make e-payment

What is the procedure I need to follow to avoid my Account getting debited more than once for the same e-transaction?

 . If during the transaction or after completing the transaction at the bank site you encounter any
   (e.g., you get disconnected or are not sure whether your account has really been debited etc.), then 
   problem instead of doing the same transaction again, check your Bank Account. If the account is has 
   already been debited,then contact your bank for regeneration of Challan. Please note that in the 
   above case do not make the same 
   transaction again which result in account debited more than once for same e-tax transaction.
 . If in any case, the account gets debited more than once, immediately contact your bank for reverting 
   the transaction or contact the Virtual Treasury Officer at 022-22040564 or 022-22040570 during Office hours or write 
   to us at 




How secure is the transmission of data to the website for e- payment?

 . All transmission through Government of Maharashtra-GRAS (Government Receipt Accounting System)
  /eChallan website is encrypted and is with Secure Socket Layer (SSL) authentication. 
 . With respect to the bank’s site,it depends on the security measures provided by the bank for netbanking




After depositing my tax at the bank, I have noticed that I have mentioned the Year/ Period incorrectly in my challan. Whom do I approach to have this corrected?

 . You should approach the Virtual Treasury Officer with an application giving full details of payment 
   and mentioning the correct details of the Year/Period and your GRN and request him to carry out the 
   necessary corrections.




After depositing the tax at the bank site, I have noticed that I have mentioned wrong Tax ID/PAN/TAN in the challan payment. How do I get this incorporated in my challan information?

 You should approach the Virtual Treasury Officer with an application containing the details of payment 
 made and the correct Tax ID/PAN/TAN and request him to make the necessary correction. You should also 
 produce the proof of the correct Tax ID/PAN/TAN etc.




Can I combine the three payments in one challan?

 So far as the same kind of revenue payment is concerned, i.e., different Object Types under one kind 
 of revenue (e.g., VAT or Sales Tax and other payments there under, viz. penalty, advance tax, etc.), 
 it is possible to combine more than one payment to be made through single challan. The maximum limit 
 is Eight Object Types. For different kinds of revenue, however (Combination of Sales Tax with 
 Excise Duty etc.), you will have to use three separate Challans. GRAS (Government Receipt Accounting 
 System) gives you separate acknowledgements with separate Government Reference Numbers (GRN) for the 
 three Challans made by you. 




Is it possible for me to make many Challans with a single online payment?

 . No. You have to make as many transactions as the number of challans.

What is the procedure for registration?

 Step 1
 . Click on the icon ‘Register Here’. You can create your profile. 
Step 2
 . You will get screen for entering the following data: -
		a)	Your Name
		b)	Your address
		c)	Your contact Numbers
		d)	Your mail id
		e)	Your log-in Name
		f)	Your Password
		g)	Security Question/Answer
		h)	Your PAN/ TAN
	  	i)	Your Tax Id, if any, for each type of revenue.
		j)	You can Upload Your Photo (In case of Individuals)
 . After saving the information, you will be required to log-in with your Log-in ID and Password.




What is the procedure for Creating Business Profile?

 Step 1
 When you login with your login id and password, you can create Business Information Profile 
  a)Select the required Department.
  b)Select the relevant Place of Payment
  c)Select the Name of the Office where Tax is payable
  d)Select the Act/ Scheme under which the Tax is payable
  e)Enter the relevant Tax ID. Please ensure that you enter Tax ID correctly, as this is extremely 
    important for further processing. 
 f)This will create a business Profile for you. You can edit/ delete the same. You can create profile 
   for as many departments as you wish.
 g)This entry will be a one-time entry; which can be used for making payments for n number of times.
Step 2 
 . Once the profile is created; you just need to click on the Department Name for making payment.
When you click on the department name, you will be directed to the Challan data entry form with
your entire details pre filled in. You just need to
 a)Select the Period of the relevant revenue
 b)Enter the Amount 
 c)Select the bank Logo from the menu provided, if you want to make payment through internet banking
